Kaizer Chiefs’ on-loan forward Khanyisa Mayo has emerged as a potential
transfer target for Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC, as the club
seeks to strengthen its attacking options.
According to information received by PSLSA, the reigning Tanzanian champions
have placed Mayo on their wishlist. The 26-year-old South African is
currently on loan at Chiefs from Algerian side CR Belouizdad, with the
Soweto giants holding an option to make the move permanent.
Young Africans are reportedly looking to add more firepower, as their
current strike force—led by Andy Boyeli and Prince Dube—has only contributed
four goals this season. The club’s pursuit is part of a broader search, with
two other forwards appearing higher on their priority list.
“Depu, Dala and Mayo. These three are targeted by Young Africans. Depu [from
Angola] was a top scorer in COSAFA 2024 and is now at Radomiak in Poland.
Gerson Dala is playing at Al Wakrah in Qatar. These two are the main
targets, and if they are missed, then the option is Khanyisa Mayo,” a source
close to the situation revealed.
Interest in Mayo from Tanzanian clubs is not new. Another source confirmed
that Young Africans had shown interest in the striker even before his move
from Cape Town City to CR Belouizdad in 2023.
Since joining Kaizer Chiefs, Mayo has found minutes limited and has scored
only once in six appearances across all competitions. With Young Africans
competing on both domestic and continental fronts, a move could offer the
former Bafana Bafana international a fresh start—should their primary
targets slip from their grasp.
