Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana fans have been reassured after
national coach Hugo Broos played down concerns regarding winger Oswin
Appollis following a knock in the recent friendly victory against Ghana.
The 24-year-old came on at halftime in Bafana’s 1-0 win but was seen limping
at full-time, raising alarms ahead of the fast-approaching 2025 Africa Cup
of Nations tournament.
However, Broos quickly moved to allay fears in his post-match interview,
stating the issue is minor. “It’s not so bad. He just got a kick on his leg,
and maybe tomorrow he will have a little problem. But (it’s) okay, it’s
nothing major,” the coach confirmed.
Appollis, a trusted attacking option for Broos known for his pace and
directness, is understood to have suffered only a knock rather than a
serious injury. The technical team will continue to monitor the player
closely as the squad completes its final preparations before departing for
Morocco, but early signs point to no significant setback.
The match against Ghana was Bafana’s final friendly before they leave South
Africa. With no more warm-up games scheduled, Broos and his staff will now
focus entirely on recovery, final tactical work, and ensuring the entire
squad is fit and ready for their AFCON opener against Angola next Monday.
