Zimbabwe’s newly crowned Soccer Star of the Year, Washington Navaya, has
confirmed he is open to a move to South Africa’s Betway Premiership—provided
the offer is right.
The 27-year-old striker, currently on national duty at the Africa Cup of
Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, told PSLSA in an exclusive interview that while
he is focused on Zimbabwe’s campaign, his agent is handling interest from
several clubs.
“Yes, I had trials at Durban City earlier this year,” Navaya said. “Right
now I’m on national duty, so I think they’ve talked to my agent. I don’t
know what’s happening, but I’m okay with it if the offers are good. Maybe
they should start talking to my agent.”
Navaya trialled with Durban City in July, and the KwaZulu-Natal side showed
strong interest in signing him. They were reportedly waiting for the
Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League season to conclude so they could secure him
as a free agent. With the domestic season now finished and Navaya’s AFCON
commitments underway, talks could progress after the tournament.
The striker earned his move into the spotlight after an outstanding season
with TelOne, where his 17 goals made him the league’s top scorer and
clinched him Zimbabwe’s highest individual football honour.
