The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that Bafana
Bafana will play a high-stakes international friendly against Ghana next
week, as their final preparation match before departing for the 2025 Africa
Cup of Nations (AFCON).
South Africa will host the Black Stars in Gauteng on Tuesday, 16 December
2025, with the exact venue to be announced shortly. The fixture will be
Bafana’s last on home soil before the squad travels to Morocco for the
continental showpiece, which runs from 21 December 2025 to January 2026.
Facing Ghana—a traditional African powerhouse known for physicality, pace,
and technical skill—provides a crucial test for coach Hugo Broos and his
players. The match will serve as a vital opportunity to fine-tune tactics,
assess player readiness, and build momentum ahead of a challenging Group B
campaign.
Bafana have been drawn alongside Egypt, Angola, and Zimbabwe, and will open
their tournament against Angola on 22 December 2025. With defending
champions Côte d’Ivoire among the 24 teams competing, the friendly against
Ghana is seen as an essential step in shaping Broos’ final plans and
instilling confidence before the team embarks on their AFCON journey.
