Former Referee Analyzes Key Calls in Chiefs’ Draw, Says Disallowed Goal Was Onside

A former Betway Premiership referee has reviewed the major officiating
decisions from Kaizer Chiefs’ goalless draw with TS Galaxy on Sunday,
concluding that a disallowed Amakhosi goal was incorrect.

Chiefs ended their final league match of 2025 frustrated, feeling hard done
by several key calls during the game. The most contentious moment came when
Flavio Da Silva’s second-half finish was ruled out for offside.

In an exclusive interview, former FIFA referee Jerome Damon argued the goal
should have stood. “The offside decision was incorrect. The goal should have
stood,” Damon stated. “It was a very tight situation on the field made
difficult by the positioning of players. While TV angles might suggest
offside, without VAR confirmation lines, one can never be 100% certain, but
you have to go with the evidence. It was not as easy a decision as pundits
and supporters make it out to be.”

Damon also addressed a separate penalty appeal from Chiefs, when Khulumani
Ndamane made contact with Dillan Solomons inside the box. He supported the
on-field decision to play on.

“No penalty,” Damon explained. “Yes, there was contact which caused the
player to go down. It was careless contact, but if there was no contact, the
ball would have been with the goalkeeper. A foul requires a challenge for
the ball within playing distance. So, no foul there. Had the tackle been
reckless, it would be a different story.”

The result leaves Kaizer Chiefs in fourth position on the Betway Premiership
log with 24 points from 13 matches as they head into the new year. They
trail league leaders Orlando Pirates, who have 28 points from 12 games, by
four points.
