Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi says his self-belief is steadily
growing as he earns more consistent playing time, helping him adapt to life
at one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
Velebayi, who started in Wednesday’s goalless draw against Chippa United,
spoke ahead of Sunday’s final match of the year against TS Galaxy. He
acknowledged the constant learning process that comes with representing a
club of Chiefs’ stature.
“For me, being a new player at Kaizer Chiefs, it’s about adapting and
learning every day because this is a big brand,” Velebayi explained. “I’m
taking it game by game. My confidence is slowly building up compared to when
I made my debut and was a bit nervous. The more minutes I get, the more my
confidence grows. I feel I’m adapting very well.”
Reflecting on the Chippa match, the young winger expressed disappointment at
dropping points but praised the squad’s collective effort.
“Naturally, we’re a bit disappointed with the result. I believe we should
have come away with all three points,” he said. “But I’m proud of the effort
from everyone—not just the players on the pitch, but also those on the bench
who supported us. We’re now focused on giving our all in the next game.”
Looking ahead to the clash with TS Galaxy, Velebayi emphasized that the
previous draw has only increased the team’s determination.
“Dropping points pushes you to fight harder for maximum points in the next
match. It gives you that hunger to make sure you go all out,” he stated.
He anticipates a difficult contest against an in-form opponent, adding:
“I’ve been watching them closely; they’re in decent form. I know it’s going
to be a tough, intense game. We’ll be looking to go all out—it will come
down to having the right mindset from everyone involved.”
Chiefs will be aiming for a victory that could lift them to third in the
Betway Premiership standings as they conclude their 2025 fixtures.
