Durban City Football Club have announced the departure of head coach
Gavin Hunt by mutual consent, following the team’s recent loss to Orlando
Pirates.
The 1-0 defeat on Saturday left Durban City in eighth place in the Betway
Premiership standings as they approach their final match of the calendar
year against Orbit College on Wednesday. Assistant coach Pitso Dlada will
assume interim charge of the first team for that fixture.
In an official statement, the club cited a strategic review as the reason
for the change. “The decision follows a review of the footballing strategy
conducted by the Board of Directors, which concluded a new approach is
required to achieve the Club’s objectives,” the statement read.
Club Chairman Farook Kadodia expressed his gratitude to Hunt, stating: “This
was a mutual decision, taken with the Club’s best interests at heart. I’d
like to thank Gavin personally for his hard work and dedication, and we all
wish him well for the future.”
Kadodia emphasized the club’s forward-looking perspective, adding, “It is
now the right time for change as we look to build a competitive side with
the future in mind.”
The club plans to use the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations break to conduct a
thorough process for appointing a permanent successor. This timeline is
intended to give the new head coach a clear pre-season period to prepare the
squad for the second half of the campaign.
