Mamelodi Sundowns will look to build on their winning start to the CAF
Champions League group stage as they face MC Alger in a highly-anticipated
clash on Friday. The match at the Stade Ali Ammar Dit Ali La Ponite pits The
Brazilians against their former coach, Rulani Mokwena.
Sundowns began their campaign confidently with a 3-1 victory over Saint Eloi
Lupopo and have benefited from a full week of rest ahead of this fixture.
Their opponents, MC Alger, suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Al Hilal in their
opener and will be desperate for a positive result at home.
The encounter adds a compelling narrative as Mokwena faces Sundowns for the
first time since his departure in 2023. This will be the third Champions
League meeting between Mokwena and current Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso.
Cardoso came out on top in their most significant previous encounter,
guiding Esperance past Mokwena’s Sundowns in the 2023/24 semi-finals.
