After departing from Orlando Pirates, coach Gerald Modabi is actively
seeking his next role in the professional ranks, with both the Betway
Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship seen as potential
destinations.
Modabi’s tenure within the Pirates development system was a formative period
for the young coach. Joining the club while still refining his craft, he
grew significantly, establishing himself and gaining invaluable experience
alongside respected figures in the Buccaneers’ technical setup.
During his time there, he immersed himself in various coaching philosophies,
honing his skills in player management, conducting high-level training
sessions, and effective team leadership. Now armed with additional
qualifications and heightened tactical confidence, Modabi feels prepared for
the rigors of senior football.
Sources close to the coach indicate he is open to a range of opportunities
within the PSL, whether as a member of a senior technical team or in an
assistant capacity that allows him to both contribute and continue his
development. Insiders suggest Modabi believes he is ready to apply the
knowledge, structure, and leadership principles he absorbed at Pirates and
is eager for a new challenge.
As coaching vacancies and reshuffles naturally occur across the top two
divisions, Modabi is expected to closely monitor the landscape for a role
where he can further establish his identity as an emerging coach in South
African football.
