Despite limited game time at Mamelodi Sundowns this season, Bafana
Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams has been advised to stay and fight for his
position at the club, rather than seek a loan move.
Sources close to the situation have revealed that both coach Miguel Cardoso
and the Sundowns hierarchy have encouraged the 24-year-old to remain at
Chloorkop and prove his worth. This comes amid speculation that his struggle
for regular minutes could lead to a temporary departure.
An insider firmly dismissed the idea of a loan, pointing to Adams’ proven
quality. “Six months ago, we were talking about him being the best
midfielder in South Africa. We cannot talk about him going on loan now. It’s
contradicting. He must fight for his place,” the source stated.
The club’s message is clear: Adams has the talent but needs to elevate his
efforts in training to break into a highly competitive midfield. “The coach
likes him. Everybody likes him, but it’s up to him… We believe Jayden can
fight for his place. He is good enough,” the insider added, noting that a
strong showing in training is the direct path to reclaiming his spot.
This lack of club action has had tangible consequences, costing Adams his
place in the recent Bafana Bafana squad—a concerning development with the
AFCON tournament on the horizon.
Since his arrival from Stellenbosch FC, Adams has previously made a
significant number of appearances for Sundowns, contributing goals and
assists. However, with intensified competition for places in the midfield,
the onus is now on him to recapture that form and secure his role at the
club.
