Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has pinpointed a stronger team
understanding and collective growth as the driving force behind the club’s
promising start to the season.
After securing a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages and
climbing the Betway Premiership table, Miguel contrasted the current
campaign with the last, highlighting a significant shift in the squad’s
cohesion.
“I think it was the fact that we worked together last season. We were in the
middle of the process,” Miguel explained. “We are still in the middle of the
process, but we start to know each other.”
The Angolan international emphasized the importance of the team’s pre-season
work, crediting the board and coaches for fostering a environment where
players can intuitively understand each other’s needs on the pitch.
“That’s the biggest difference from last season to this season; to
understand my teammate, what he needs, what the team needs,” he said. “Not
individually, but as a team. We are growing. We have a long way to go
still… but I think we are closer than we were last season.”
With a demanding schedule ahead, Miguel also expressed confidence in the
squad’s depth to handle both domestic and continental competitions. He
affirmed that the team has “a deeper squad than last season,” which will
allow for necessary rotation during the extensive travel required for CAF
matches.
Amakhosi will now look to carry this improved synergy into their
Confederation Cup group stage campaign later this month.
