Chippa United Nearing Decision on Trialist Bongani Sam

Chippa United is set to make a final decision on the future of former
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates defender Bongani Sam, who has been
training with the club for several weeks.

The left-back has been a free agent since being released by Kaizer Chiefs at
the start of the current season. Despite joining Amakhosi at the beginning
of the 2024/25 campaign, Sam failed to make a single official appearance.
His time at Naturena was derailed by an injury sustained during a pre-season
camp in Europe, and even after recovery, he was not included in coach
Nasereddine Nabi’s plans.

Chippa United Sporting Director Sinesipho Mali confirmed that Sam is still
with the “Chilli Boys” on trial, but remained tight-lipped about the
outcome.

“When the time is right we will make an announcement. Yes, my brother, he is
still training with us at the moment,” Mali stated in an exclusive interview
with PSLSA.

When asked if the club was impressed with the defender’s performances during
the trial period, Mali deferred to the technical team, emphasizing that the
final call rests with the coaches.

“We will make the announcement when the time is right. I am not a coach, I
can’t comment on his performance at training,” Mali concluded.

The 26-year-old, who previously played for Bloemfontein Celtic, now awaits
his fate as Chippa United deliberates on offering him a contract.
