Mamelodi Sundowns have reinforced their squad from within, officially
promoting rising star Thato Sibiya to their senior team after the defender
signed his first professional contract with the champions.
The 20-year-old left-back has earned his promotion following a series of
standout performances in the DStv Diski Challenge, where he garnered praise
for his remarkable consistency, relentless work rate, and dangerous
attacking contributions from the flank.
A product of the club’s own academy, Sibiya is the latest young talent to
graduate to the first team under the watch of coach Miguel Cardoso. He is
renowned for his tenacious one-on-one defending, high energy, and quality of
delivery in the final third, marking him as one of South Africa’s most
promising young full-backs.
Insiders at the club have lauded the youngster’s potential, with sources
describing him as “a beast on the left side” who has the qualities to become
a key figure for Sundowns in the future.
His promotion continues the Tshwane giants’ proud tradition of developing
homegrown talent. Sibiya will now train alongside established stars like
Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau, taking the next crucial step in his senior
career.
