Richards Bay Fight Back to Secure Carling Knockout Semi-Final Berth

Richards Bay are through to the Carling Knockout semi-finals after a
hard-fought 3-1 victory over Durban City in extra-time at the uMhlathuze
Stadium on Saturday.

The match was a tightly contested Durban derby that required an additional
30 minutes to find a winner. Durban City broke the deadlock in the 53rd
minute through a powerful Trevor Mokwena strike that took a decisive
deflection off the post.

Facing elimination, Richards Bay coach Gavin Hunt made strategic changes to
his attack, and the pressure paid off with just six minutes of regulation
time remaining. Justice Figareido was the provider, setting up an unmissable
close-range finish for Yamelo Mutizwa to level the score and force
extra-time.

The Natal Rich Boyz carried their momentum into the additional period,
completing their comeback in the 100th minute. Substitute Mbulelo Nombengula
became the hero, arriving at the perfect moment to score from close range
and put his side in front.

Lundi Mahala then sealed the victory in the final minute of extra-time,
coolly lofting the ball over the advancing City goalkeeper Darren Keet to
book his team’s place in the final four.

The result marks a significant achievement for Richards Bay, who now
continue their quest for cup glory.
