Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has heaped praise on his
teammate, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, following his nomination for the CAF
Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Williams, who clinched the prestigious title last year, is once again a
leading contender for the honour.
Kekana expressed immense pride in Williams’ journey, reflecting on their
shared history that began at SuperSport United. He revealed that their
footballing paths have crossed since their youth.
“It makes me so happy and proud,” Kekana told media at Chloorkop. “We
started at the same time at SuperSport and even faced each other at
development level. For him to reach the heights he has, and with such
remarkable consistency, is no fluke.”
The defender recalled that Williams’ commanding talent was evident from a
young age. “I think everyone could see, even back then, that he had a
special presence about him.”
Kekana also highlighted the Bafana Bafana captain’s unwavering work ethic,
describing him as always willing to learn and help others.
“He is always working hard and is a true team player,” Kekana added. “He’s
representing himself brilliantly, but also the club and his family. All we
can do is cheer him on, wish him the best, and hope he brings the award
home.”
