Stellenbosch FC returned to winning ways in a spectacular fashion,
outlasting Golden Arrows 4-3 in a Betway Premiership rollercoaster at
Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.
The match was a back-and-forth affair from the start. Stellenbosch drew
first blood when Langelihle Phili, fresh from the U-20 World Cup, celebrated
his return by opening the scoring in the 14th minute.
Golden Arrows responded just before halftime, with Siyanda Ndlovu weaving
through the defense to equalize.
The second half turned into a goal-fest. Stellenbosch regained the lead five
minutes after the break through Andre de Jong, only for Arrows’ Sede Dion to
level the score again at 2-2 in the 54th minute.
De Jong then completed his brace to put Stellenbosch ahead for a third time,
but Arrows showed incredible resilience, pulling level once more through a
superb strike from substitute Isaac Cisse in the 73rd minute.
However, the final twist came from Stellenbosch substitute Muzomuhlee
Khanyi, who fired home the decisive goal with just 14 minutes remaining to
seal a hard-fought victory for the Cape Winelands outfit. The win marks
Stellenbosch’s second league victory of the season, providing a vital boost
after their recent Confederation Cup outing.
