Sundowns Storm Nigeria: Five-Star Display Puts Champions League Progression on Ice

Mamelodi Sundowns have all but sealed their place in the CAF Champions
League group stages after delivering a stunning 5-1 demolition of Remo
Stars in Nigeria, putting on a commanding display in the first leg of the
second preliminary round.

From the outset, the Brazilians showcased their intent. Tashreeq Matthews
set the tone, opening his continental account for the club with a
beautiful long-range strike in the 12th minute.

Despite a setback with an injury to defender Malibongwe Khoza, Sundowns’
dominance was relentless. Peter Shalulile doubled the lead just before
halftime with a cool close-range finish, showcasing his predatory
instincts.

The second half was a continuation of the one-sided affair. New signing
Reisinho marked his debut with a well-taken goal, followed by a quick
strike from substitute Arthur Sales just six minutes after he entered the
fray.

While the Nigerian side managed a consolation goal through Samson Olasupo,
Sundowns immediately extinguished any hope of a comeback. Tsiki Ntsabeleng
came off the bench to fire home the fifth and final goal, capping off a
spectacular team performance and leaving Remo Stars with a mountain to
climb in the return leg.
