Mamelodi Sundowns kick off their 2025 CAF Champions League campaign this
afternoon with a tough away fixture against Nigeria’s Remo Stars.
The match, set for the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium, marks the
Brazilians’ entry into the competition after they were granted a bye in
the first preliminary round due to their strong continental ranking.
Sundowns, who reached the final last season only to be defeated by Egypt’s
Pyramids FC, will be eager to bounce back from a recent domestic setback—a
penalty shootout loss to Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout.
Their opponents, Remo Stars, arrive with momentum, having comfortably
advanced to this round with a resounding 5-0 aggregate victory over
Zilimadjou last month. The Nigerian side is now aiming to make history by
qualifying for the group stages for the very first time.
