After a period of significant upheaval, the atmosphere at Kaizer Chiefs
appears to be settling, with co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze
receiving positive news on the player availability front.
Indications are that midfielder Lebohang Maboe, a high-profile free-agent
signing from September, is on the verge of making his long-awaited debut for
Amakhosi. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United player has been
diligently working on his fitness since arriving and has made excellent
progress. Now fully integrated into training with the squad, the decision on
when to unleash the experienced midfielder rests with the coaching staff.
Maboe is not the only new face nearing a first appearance. Striker Etiosa
Ighodaro is also edging closer to his debut for the Soweto giants. Having
been training with the team, it is considered only a matter of time before
he makes his official bow.
This news comes as a welcome boost for the club, which has recently
navigated the departure of coach Nasreddine Nabi and has now successfully
registered new signings Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman.
Chiefs’ next challenge is a trip to Lubumbashi, where they will face AS
Simba in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round
this Saturday.
