The High Performance Centre in Tshwane is set to become the epicenter of
youth football this weekend as it hosts the prestigious 2025 Engen Champ of
Champs tournament. The event, which runs from Friday, 10 October to Sunday,
12 October, will crown new national champions in both the Girls U-20 and
Boys U-18 divisions.
This year’s tournament guarantees first-time winners after the defending
champions, Kaizer Chiefs (Boys) and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (Girls), were
knocked out during the provincial qualifying stages. The competition brings
together the top youth teams from across South Africa who triumphed in their
regional Engen Knockout Challenge events.
The official draw has set the stage for an exciting weekend of football. In
the Girls U-20 section, former winners the University of Johannesburg
headline a competitive Group B against City Lads, Cape Town Roses, and
Mafikeng Ladies. Group A features Royal Wizards, Durban Ladies, Sisters FC,
East High Girls Academy, and Ixias Ladies FC.
The Boys U-18 draw is equally compelling. Group A is a five-team pool
featuring East High Boys Academy, Panorama FC, Junior Birds FC, Postmasburg
FC, and Bakgaga United, with the top two finishers advancing to the
semi-finals. Group B promises fierce competition with Cape Town City FC,
Potch Academy, Kusekhaya Football Academy, and Chippa United all vying for a
knockout spot.
Beyond the coveted championship trophy, the winning team in each division
will receive R30,000 in prize money.
The tournament kicks off on Friday at 08:00 at the High Performance Centre,
with matches scheduled throughout the day.
