Tsotetsi: Chiefs Loans a “Stepping Stone,” Celebrates Historic Varsity Cup Win

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi has backed the
deadline-day loan moves of Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane to Bloemfontein
Celtic, viewing it as a crucial step for their development and future at
Amakhosi.

With first-team opportunities at Naturena looking limited, Tsotetsi believes
the move to Siwelele is an ideal platform for the duo to gain the experience
and confidence needed to eventually return and succeed at Chiefs.

“If the technical team has decided that they won’t use them this season, it
does not mean that they won’t need them in future,” Tsotetsi told Soccer
Laduma. “The fact that they have been allowed to go out on loan means a lot
for their careers… to gain confidence again and add value for the team.”

He pointed to a proven track record of such moves paying off, stating,
“We’ve seen situations where players have been loaned out and then they come
back and do well. So, it’s good for their careers.”

In a separate triumph, Tsotetsi himself is celebrating a major career
milestone. He has made history by becoming the first coach to lead the
University of Free State (Kovsies) to a Varsity Cup title.

“It’s a great feeling to win the Varsity Cup at the first time of trying for
me,” an elated Tsotetsi said. “It adds to my CV that at least I have won the
Varsity Cup. It gives me an opportunity to work with the youth, so it’s a
very good feeling. I am over the moon for making this history.”
