Defeat Mars Nuno Santos’ Mamelodi Sundowns Debut

Despite a disappointing 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows in his first outing,
Mamelodi Sundowns’ new marquee signing, Nuno Santos, has expressed a sense
of pride in his debut and optimism for the future. The Portuguese winger
described the experience as a “mix of feelings,” torn between the
frustration of the result and the honour of finally representing the
Brazilians.

In a post-match interview, the 29-year-old acknowledged the team’s effort
while lamenting the missed opportunity. “I wanted to start with a win.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t do it,” Santos stated. “But at the same time, I
am happy with my debut here. Very proud of the team; we tried for the full
90 minutes. Sadly, we couldn’t get the three points, but we go again next
game.”

The match served as a demanding introduction to the Betway Premiership for
Santos, who highlighted the physical and emotional intensity of the league.
He characterized the clash as a “very physical game, [an] emotional game as
well,” with moments of quality from both sides. Outlining his personal
philosophy, Santos added, “I am a guy that gives it all… always thinking
about the team and never on myself.”

Beyond the pitch, the winger has been warmly welcomed in Pretoria. He
extended gratitude to his new teammates and the Sundowns supporters, whose
fervent backing he noted is distinctly different from what he experienced in
Portugal. “I felt a huge support from the fans… Everybody made it easier,”
he said. “I feel very good here. And I hope to give joy to the team and to
the fans.”
